Scabiosa - Drumsticks
Scabiosa - Drumsticks
This unusual flower plays double duty in the garden. You can use the dainty periwinkle blooms or wait for the flowers to fade and the dried seed heads to form. The dried seed head forms a sphere that can be used to add texture to fresh or dried arrangements.
Planting: Sow seeds indoors 4-6 weeks before your last frost. Surface sow seeds barely covering them with a fine sprinkling of vermiculite. Plant out after the danger of frost has passed.
Harvesting: Stems can be cut when flowers are fully open or when seed heads have fully dried.
